McKeesport Area School District 21st Century Community Learning Center Program (2015 - Present)

Pursuing Academics with Success (PAWS)

Since 2015 CEAC has worked with The McKeesport Area School District (MASD) as an external evaluator of the PAWS afterschool program for funding and program review. PAWS operates through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) grant funding in three of its schools: McClure Intermediate School, Twin Rivers Intermediate School and Founders’ Hall Middle School. The program meets after school Monday-Thursday for three hours with the intention of providing high quality academic support, which includes homework help, web-based tutoring, extended library hours with book-clubs, computer lab time, engineering and technology activities, and adult and peer mentoring. PAWS activities are led and implemented by district teachers employed by the program. In addition to the program’s academic support, nutritional support is provided through a daily dinner and recreational time is provided to ensure students have the opportunity for daily exercise. Transportation is also provided to students for whom it is necessary and parent activities are scheduled throughout the year to facilitate parent involvement with the program.
